I also do apprehend the stress that the nursing staff are under due to chronic staff shortages and cutbacks. They all do their best to give proper care and attention. I perceive that some of these people are burnt out but that is to be expected. It takes a certain kind of person to even do this kind of work.

Now for the second time in this emergency room. Not only were there little to no nurses around they did not communicate. Everyone was complaining 6 hours later no one had seen a doctor or even heard from one. The emergency room was filled and yet some how no one could get a doctor. NO ONE! There was one couple who had been there for 7 hours with no doctor. My father was there because he had gallstones and one was not passing. The last time we went to emergency with him which was less than 2 months ago the doctor said that it may be able to pass. Later we found out it was so big it should have been blown up!!! Nanaimo emergency services is a poor excuse! If you can wait and bare the pain so you can see your proper doctor I’d suggest doing that because you rarely get help here. If your doctors clearly cannot do their job they should be sent back to school or evaluated by a higher person. If you would like more experiences from this place I like to call hell on Earth feel free to ask. Since these are the recent experiences!!!

I also worked as a security guard at all of the Fraser Health hospitals and got to see a lot there.

Having surgery has never been on my Bucket List, but since it was, I am very glad it was at NRGH. Staff from all departments were so fantastic, friendly, helpful and professional that I felt like a visiting VIP. When staff enjoy their profession, it really shows in the courtesy and care shown to the patients. So, thank you staff, management, volunteers and my wonderful surgery team, you are really the very, very best.

If I could give no stars I would. Nanaimo emergency is ONE OF THE WORST emergency services I have ever been to. First off the two plus visits we unfortunately had to make were the worst. When someone goes in they expect to see a trained and professional doctor NOT a trainee with NO SUPERVISION!!!!!!!! My mum suffered from a fractured floating rib, but the young trainee with no supervision, no professional doctor around wanted to run tests and scans because he didn’t know what he was doing. He made her fracture even worse by poking around it, made her think it could be a blood clot and then to make things even worse didn’t even try to suspect she may have ANXIETY due to chest pains. She’s been clinically diagnosed with anxiety for years! We later saw another doctor in the clinic who confirmed it was a problem with her rib. No, the tests and scans shouldn’t have even been scheduled or thought of. If I had the name of the trainee I would have put it in this review because CLEARLY he hasn’t had enough training or experience!!!!!!!!!

This may be premature but this is causing great disteress to my Mother brought in by ambulance. It is 60 feet between triage and where she sits. Her purse is gone! Totally unacceptable for a persons valuables being taken while so vulnerable.

I'm at medical daycare every 2 weeks. The nurses are very polite and skilled. Over the years Nanaimo has grown and it's put a lot of pressure on the hospital staff and management. However it's still one of the best regional hospitals on the island in my opinion.

Yeah, I almost died but I survived it and I'm back home now and still recuperating from a virulent spinal infection.

All told it was above and beyond, especially since I'm a duel citizen and I know what I would have faced in the USA.

Over worked and underpaid is probably a cliche but it applies to the staff at all BC hospitals. I've been a patient in four hospitals, two on the lower mainland and two on the island.

When I was on the rehab ward Troy and Catherine were exceptional nurses. Also, Paula my physio pushed me hard to get my life back and help me to walk again. Brandon was a compassionate guy and a knowledgeable physiotherapist.
